Forwood Elementary School

Bringing the Forwood garden to fruition has been a team effort that began before HFHK became involved in the project.   Zach, a former Forwood student and Eagle Scout from Troop 527 built the garden in 2015.  Carrie Murphy of New Castle County Cooperative Extension got the students excited about their garden and worked with the “Green Team” to grow lettuce, broccoli and other crops in fall of 2015.  With HFHK assistance, 5th grade teacher Leona Williams secured a Whole Kids Foundation grant to buy the necessary tools and supplies, and the HFHK Education Cultivation Program began in earnest in Spring 2016.

HFHK & Forword are grateful for a  sponsorship from the WaWa Foundation helped support Forwood teacher training by HFHK staff.

The garden coordinator is Elaine Mendelson, who has help from a terrific garden team!
