Shortlidge Elementary School

Shortlidge Elementary School's garden has been growing since Spring of 2012.  HFHK received funding to start this Education Cultivation garden program from the Healthy People 2020 Community Innovations grant.

The garden was built under the direction of HFHK by school students and staff, members of the Brandywine Hills Community Association, HFHK volunteers, and AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers.

Art Teacher Cheryl Weichsel was the Garden Coordinator during the first semester of the program.

Students enjoyed several harvests from the garden during the first growing season.  Here students harvest baby Japanese turnips, which were delivered to the cafeteria and served for lunch.
